A difficult off season becomes even more difficult for Tennessee football. Just a few weeks into the Josh Heupel era, three Tennessee football players were arrested on drug charges. Linebacker Martavius French, striker Isaac Washington and linebacker Aaron Willis were charged for simple possession and illegal drug paraphernalia, according to WATE.
According to the report, the incident happened on Tuesday night earlier this week.
The university police sent a security warning after the Stokely Hall incident, described as a robbery and theft by a group of four or five men.
According to the warning, a resident of Stokely Hall was assaulted by a man, while “three to four other men entered the residence and went to another room in the apartment, where it was believed that items belonging to the victim were taken”. (ESPN)
French is entering his second season on the show, while Washington and Willis signed with the Volunteers during the 2021 cycle and signed up in January. Tennessee is preparing for spring training in late March.
Tennessee is already thin in the linebacker position after the loss of Henry To’o To’o and Quarvaris Crouch, so Willis and French being involved here is a big deal. Neither Willis nor Washington were recruited by Josh Heupel’s team, as each signed before, while Jeremy Pruitt was still at work.
We will update this post with any new details that may arise.
UPDATE: A statement was released from Tennessee.
“We are aware of an incident in Stokely Hall involving student-athlete football,” said the statement from UT’s sports department. “The individuals involved in the incident have been suspended indefinitely from football activities, pending further analysis by the university.”
