Three shot to death after sniper opened fire at bowling alley in Rockford, Illinois | United States News

A sniper opened fire inside a bowling alley in Illinois, killing three people and wounding three others in what authorities believe was a random attack.

A “person of interest” was arrested after the Saturday night shooting at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, about 80 miles (128 kilometers) northwest of Chicago, police said.

Rockford police chief Dan O’Shea said during a news conference that two of the dead were teenagers.

O’Shea did not immediately disclose additional information about the victims or the person who was arrested. He described the scene as contained and said he did not believe that any police fired their guns while arresting the person concerned.

The Rockford Register Star reported that 2020 was the city’s most lethal year for homicides, according to records dating back to 1965. Thirty-five people were killed in the city this year, breaking the previous record of 31 in 1996.
