At least three people died and five others were injured in a shooting in and around Chicago, according to reports.
One of the dead includes the suspected sniper, who was apparently shot and killed by the police, according to the NBC affiliate in Chicago.
The violence started on Saturday afternoon in the city’s Kenwood neighborhood, where a woman was shot to death and another seriously injured, according to local station WGN9.
A University of Chicago student was shot and killed in a nearby parking lot, the station reported.
While police officers confronted the sniper, he allegedly ran to an IHOP in Evanston, a city 12 miles north of downtown Chicago, where he took a woman hostage, shooting her before exchanging shots with police officers in a dollar store parking lot. .
The sniper’s weapon was recovered on the spot, Evanston police tweeted; the authorities did not immediately identify the sniper and the victims.
