The Lyon district house was completely engulfed in flames after the accident, however, the five residents of the house were evacuated safely. The family cat, however, did not survive the incident, according to CNN affiliate WDIV.
In a statement to The Hill, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the plane as a single-engine Piper PA-24 and said the accident occurred around 4 pm local time.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident and release more details as soon as they arrive.
A neighbor told the local outlet that there were concerns that something like this might happen due to the area’s proximity to Oakland / Southwest Airport.
“I have two brothers under the age of 2 and they were sleeping upstairs; they were taking a nap … you worry if it could happen to us, because these planes fly low here all the time, “said Chase Southwick, according to CNN.
