Some former South Carolina football players go to the Super Bowl.
Three ex-Gamecocks are heading to Tampa, where they will represent their respective teams at the Super Bowl LV on February 7. It is the ninth consecutive season that a South Carolina alumnus has made an appearance in the Super Bowl.
These three Gamecocks are the main defenders Chris Lammons and Rashad Fenton, and Tampa Bay kicker Ryan Succop.
Succop and the Bucs took home the NFC crown by beating the Green Bay Packers 31-26. The special coach hit all four attempts for extra points in Sunday’s clash, as well as a 46-yard field goal.
In the year, he scored 28 of 31 field goals, with a 50-meter long. His 90.3% field goal percentage is 11th in the NFL, and the veteran kicker was perfect within 40 yards (20 to 20). Succop is the sixth in the league in points scored this season, and is among the top 50 of all time, with 1,182 points in his 11-year career.
Like Gamecock, Succop was an artist at all conferences, leading the SEC in field goals as a senior. He succeeded in 49 out of 69 career attempts, and also handled punt duties as a sophomore and sophomore, maintaining a career average of 42.3 yards over 85 attempts.
Two former South Carolina defenders impact the game for the AFC title.
In last night’s clash, the Chiefs defeated Buffalo in the game for the AFC title. Two defenders, Chris Lammons and Rashad Fenton, made great moves to help Kansas City win.
Lammons registered a tackle as a top scorer on special teams, making a big blow to Buffalo’s punt returner Andre Roberts.
Lammons is in his second season in the NFL, and his first in Kansas City. He has contributed to special teams for most of his young career, scoring 14 tackles, three pass separations and an interception in 15 games.
Like Gamecock, Lammons was a four-year contributor, making 177 career tackles. He added 17 pass separations, four choices, four forced fumbles, two fumble bounces and a sack from his cornerback position, while serving as the team’s top punt returner for the past two seasons.
Lammons ‘professional and university teammate Rashad Fenton also made an impact, eliminating Bills’ interlocutor, Josh Allen, in the fourth period, with Buffalo looking to score. It was the first redzone interception in Allen’s career, which Fenton quickly returned for 30 yards.
Fenton is in his second year with the Chiefs and will now make his second appearance in the Super Bowl. He saw an increase in playing time in the 2020 season, appearing in 16 games and making three games.
For his career, he now counted 58 tackles, 13 defending passes and three interceptions, which returned 61 yards.
In South Carolina, Fenton accumulated 122 tackles, 19 passing breaks and five picks in defense. He also returned 26 kickoffs for an average of 24.8 yards per pop and recorded a 96-yard long.
