Thor star Chris Hemsworth says bodybuilding is seen as ‘vanity’

Chris Hemsworth said that bodybuilding is seen as ‘vanity’ as he discussed his exhaustive training routine for his role as Thor in the Marvel blockbusters.

The 37-year-old Australian actor admitted that if he gained ‘too much weight for health’ or became ‘skinny for health’ for a role, he would be called a ‘serious actor’.

Chris, who starred as Thor on the Marvel blockbusters since 2011 and is currently filming Thor: Love and Thunder, compared his training to that of a ‘professional athlete’.

He told The Telegraph: ‘There is an aesthetic that the role requires. Bodybuilding is seen as vanity, whereas if I gained a lot of unhealthy weight or got too thin for a role, I would probably be called a serious actor.

“Training for 10 years doing this is a full-time job. That and then a 12-hour shooting day – it’s a real routine. It is incredibly rewarding too – you have to look at it like a professional athlete. ‘

Chris also admitted that after years of ‘overtraining’, he is currently the ‘fittest’ and ‘strongest’ he has ever had, due to spending more time at home during the pandemic.

The actor lives in Byron Bay, Australia, with his model wife Elsa Pataky and their three children, daughter India Rose, eight, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, seven.

Chris said: ‘This is probably the fittest and strongest I have ever been before all the Thors. Having that time at home meant that I explored different methods to see how I can manipulate my body with the right amount of weightlifting and weight training exercises. ‘

The actor admitted that he is usually “very stiff and sore” on the mornings of his training, so he uses a freezer to relax his muscles.

Elsewhere during the conversation, Chris admitted that after playing Thor for ten years, he wants to try new projects that ‘don’t look familiar’.

The actor recently graduated to play WWE icon Hulk Hogan in a highly anticipated biopic.

Chris said that he decides his future jobs according to location and that he enjoyed ‘being grounded’ at home with his family during the pandemic.

The actor is working on the new Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney, and there are rumors that he will be producing Elsa’s next film, Interceptor.

Chris is known to have a strict exercise regime, which helps him maintain his superhero physique.

In an interview with Australian Men’s Health last month, he said his ‘body closes’ when he doesn’t exercise.

‘I just don’t feel right. I like it for a few days, then everything starts to hurt ‘, he confessed.

‘I get sore and there is inflammation, my back is stiff. I am well aware that, in order to live healthier and happier, I need to keep walking. ‘

He also emphasized the importance of developing an exercise regime that keeps you motivated.

‘I do many different things. You have to be an explorer in the world of fitness and exercise and be constantly looking for something new, ‘he said.

Chris enlists the help of personal trainer Luke Zocchi, who puts the father of three in two training methods, HIIT and HIRT.

HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training, which involves short bursts of intense exercise to burn fat.

Meanwhile, HIRT stands for high intensity resistance training and involves strengthening exercises to build muscle.

The Australian production of Thor: Love and Thunder was made possible thanks to a $ 24 million lease incentive by the NSW and Australian governments.

The fourth film in the Thor franchise stars Chris as the hammer’s superhero, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Star Lord and Christian Bale as Gorr, the Butcher God.

It is being directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi, who also directed Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the series.

Thor: Love and Thunder sees Portman’s character, astrophysicist Jane Foster, take on Thor’s cloak after transforming into a female version of the Norse god.

The actress appeared in Thor 2011 and following Thor: The Dark World 2013, but skipped Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.
