Clemson, SC – Jenna Thompson secured her first career victory over a qualified opponent when Clemson (2-1, 0-0 ACC) suffered his first loss of the year to South Carolina (3-2, 0-0 SEC). The defeat increased the South Carolina series lead to 30-27 at all times.
Despite falling behind 4-1 at the start of his singles match, Thompson persevered to beat No. 93 Emma Shelton 6-4 6-3. However, Gamecocks secured the doubles point, as well as wins in court 2, 4 and 6 to give the Tigers their first loss of the season.
“I thought I played really well,” said Thompson. “I never gave up. When I lost 4 to 1 in the first, I kept believing and I knew I could do it. I just kept fighting and I’m really, really happy to have won. “
