This viral video of an ‘Apple Car’ parking lot is totally fake

Have you ever seen that stylish Apple Car video that is going viral TikTok, Twitter and YouTube? The car has bizarre spherical wheels and can park alone if you believe your lying eyes.

The video has accumulated over 5 million views in Twitter alone, but it is totally false, in case you have any questions.

With recent reports that Apple’s self-driving car project is still under construction, it makes sense for viral video creators to try to capitalize on Cupertino’s latest rumors. But this new viral video is not what it seems. In fact, this forgery has its roots in a CGI design that is almost a decade old.

As the site The Drive points out, the car in the viral video appears to be based on a concept car designed in 2013, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo. Apparently, someone took that concept car and replaced the Mercedes logo with an Apple log.

Drive also notes that trackball wheels like the one in this fake video are physically impossible, something that is needed here in the early 21st century. The problem, of course, is that there is no practical way to float completely spherical wheels unless you use something like magnetic levitation, a totally unlikely solution that Goodyear Tires proposed in 2016. But everything is still fantasy.

If you’re excited to drive an Apple car, we’ve got even more discouraging for you that broke down recently. Many people seem to believe that the Apple car could hit the roads in 2021, but according to MacRumors, the car will not be reaching the consumer in the next few years, instead it will appear sometime in 2025. And even that seems optimistic, given the number of obstacles that still exist for fully autonomous driving on existing United States roads.

Yes, many people predicted that we would have autonomous cars for a while. But these types of advances are easier to make in the lab than on the road. Just ask the US military, who tried to build an autonomous vehicle in 1985 that would be communicating with something like the Terminator Skynet.

Hold your horses, Apple fans. The future of the robot is near and we are sure that the automated uprising to make humanity obsolete will happen in due course. You just need to be patient.
