This Marvel Comics storyline could spoil WandaVision – and Phase 4 MCU

A classic Marvel Comics storyline, starring Scarlet Witch and the Avengers, may be the key to finding out WandaVision – and Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Inside WandaVision, Marvel Studios’ first original series, the unusual couple Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) move to the Westview suburbs after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As Wanda channels decades of sitcoms into a seemingly self-created reality, magically creating happily ever after with her dead husband and newborn twin children Tommy and Billy, they begin to suspect that not everything is as it seems on TV Land.

After the Avengers traveled through time and parallel dimensions in Endgame to reverse Thanos (Josh Brolin) snap that erased half of all life in the universe, Marvel Studios director Kevin Feige confirmed that Multiverse connections would happen before and after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Feige also revealed WandaVision forms a loose trilogy with Spider-Man 3 and the Doctor Strange sequel, where the wizard Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is the mentor of reality bender Wanda.

Multiverse of madness also connects directly to the next Disney + series Loki, who could introduce challenger Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) before he appears on the big screen in Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania.

If Wanda’s nosy neighbor, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), is secretly Agatha Harkness, an ancient witch and mentor to the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel comics, WandaVision has three of the main characters needed to create the story Avengers disassembled and House of M. When Episode 4 presents the possibility of Wanda being the secret villain of WandaVisionremember the Darker than scarlet plot that ran through Avengers West Coast in the late 1980s:

Normal in every way

Agatha expresses concerns about Thomas and William, the offspring of a mutant and a synthetzoid, shocking Wanda with the revelation that her children disappear when she is not thinking about them (Avengers West Coast # 51). Wanda rejects Agatha’s accusation that the twins are not normal children, refusing to believe that Thomas and William “just cease to exist” when Wanda is concerned.

When Master Pandemonium attacks the Avengers with a horde of demons and kidnaps the twins, the villain reveals that the super-demon Mephisto spread his soul after splitting it into five pieces. When Wonder Man mentions Bewitched – one of the classic sitcoms that influence WandaVision – Enraged Wanda loses control and attacks his fellow Avenger, the Wasp.

Observing from afar is Immortus, one of the identities of Kang the Conqueror.

The Avengers confront Master Pandemonium, who kidnapped the sons of Wanda and Vision to replace the missing pieces in his soul – only to discover that Thomas and William are pieces of Mephisto soul that was once considered destroyed by Franklin Richards (The fantastic four # 277). When the demon reabsorb his lost pieces, restoring his essence at the cost of Wanda losing his children, Agatha defeats Mephisto by erasing the twins from Wanda’s memory.

As if they never existed

Agatha explains: “Wanda wished her whole life for the kind of normal existence that was forever denied to her by her changing powers. She so desired a family – in her mind the perfect symbol of a happy and peaceful life – that she suffered what a human woman was. a hysterical or imaginary pregnancy. In these cases, there is usually no child to be born … but Wanda’s power to change the odds created Thomas and William. Twins, you see, to double the realization of their dream. Since their power does not can create a real life, she unconsciously reached out to take anything that worked as souls for newborns. What she took, still very weakened by the recent separation, were two of the missing pieces of Mephisto! ”

Condemning the Multiverse

Agatha’s astral form attempts to reach Wanda in a trance, which is transformed into a source of living energy for Immortus. Urging her to get rid of the excess power generated by Immortus, Agatha desperately tells Wanda that it will be useless to him without the ability to alter the probabilities of the cosmic timelines. When Wanda’s love for his teammates takes her out of her trance, Immortus curses Agatha for creating new disagreements that he says will “do irreversible damage to countless existing realities” – potentially condemning the entire Multiverse.

Future Jeopardy

The Timekeepers tell Immortus that their only duty was the final transmutation of a particular Nexus being – the Scarlet Witch – into a source of power. They explain: Immortus would then use that power over the odds to safeguard the main events that I owe occur over a variety of timeframes to ensure a certain future, including one in which Time Keepers have a personal interest (Avengers West Coast # 62).

The trio reveals that Immortus could only use a pre-existing Nexus being, not create one. When Wanda managed to reject his spell power, they were forced to intervene. “If that power could cause chaos between the timelines,” they warn, “all futures would be in danger – including the one where we ourselves came into existence!”

“If we cease to exist because of dirty timelines, the loss to the Multiverse would be profound,” say the Guardians of Time, who send the mutant energy expelled by the Scarlet Witch to Immortus. They condemn him to an immobile existence in limbo, transformed into the same vessel of all-powerful energy that he intended Wanda to be, and Wanda returns to the Avengers (Avengers West Coast # 62).
