Another 700,000 Utahns just became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday – the first day, officially, when people 50 and older can apply for an appointment.
People with diabetes, chronic kidney disease or a body mass index of 30 or more also qualified, Governor Spencer Cox announced last Thursday. He asked the Utahns to wait until Monday to schedule their appointments, to allow locals to prepare for the wave of new cases – but some agencies did not wait and started making appointments on Thursday.
So, where does anyone get an appointment? The Utah Department of Health is working through regional and local health departments, healthcare companies and pharmacy chains to distribute the vaccine as widely and quickly as possible. Cox said his policy is to “embrace chaos” and encouraged residents to recheck when they cannot get an immediate spot. The sites saw demand rise on Monday.
In all cases, the first rule is: Sign up for an online appointment first.
