Sony is entering the drone business, with the company showing a brief first look at its new Airpeak drone at CES 2021. The new drone is considered the smallest drone capable of carrying an Alpha camera and is designed for creating video content and professional photography.

There are few concrete details about the new drone system at the moment, although Sony has mentioned that it is exploring the use of drones to shoot landscapes and cities. He showed the Airpeak as a chase camera for filming his latest CES Vision-S concept car. The model presented at CES 2021 is a quadcopter design and has two landing gear extensions that retract upwards during flight (so as not to harm your footage).
Although Sony has never been involved with drones before, its cameras are among the best in the industry – so much so that market leader DJI already offers camera mounts for Sony Alpha products. And the idea of Sony bringing that experience to bear on products focused on custom-made drones is certainly intriguing.
Sony had originally announced the Airpeak brand in late 2020, with a launch window planned for “spring 2021”.
