These are the safest states during the COVID-19 pandemic

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage across the country, states are struggling to mitigate the spread of the deadly virus while safely reopening their economies.

A WalletHub study released on Thursday revealed its ranking of the five safest states to live in using recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The COVID Tracking Project and epiforecasts.io.

“As the United States continues its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, staying safe is one of America’s top concerns. Security is also essential to getting the economy back on track, as the lower transmission of COVID- 19 and deaths are in a state, but that state is able to remove restrictions on business, “wrote the credit report service. “We will only be able to fully return to normal life after the majority of the population is vaccinated against the coronavirus, and it will still be months before we achieve this.”

“Some states are already safer than others, however, based on how well they have kept the pandemic in check and how much they are vaccinating,” continued the funders.

“To discover the safest states during the COVID-19 pandemic, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia on five main indicators,” they explained.

WalletHub compared the areas mentioned in five different categories, including the states’ vaccination rate, positive test rate, hospitalization rate, transmission rate and mortality rate.

The study authors each determined the corresponding weights for all metrics ratings on a 100-point scale – with 100 points representing the safest possible conditions.

They then determined the weighted average for each metric and the totals were computed to determine the overall scores.

So, what state does WalletHub say is best for navigating this dangerous balancing act?

First, with a score of 86.52, is Alaska, which accounted for only 288 deaths and 56,968 confirmed cases, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

In second place is Hawaii, with 79.22 points. Johns Hopkins reports that Hawaii recorded 426 deaths for its 27,132 cases and currently has a lower test positivity rate than Alaska.

Third is the state of Maine, in the northeast, with 78.42 points. Maine has had 654 deaths and 42,877 cases so far, says John Hopkins.
