Just under a year ago, we said which phones we used as our daily drivers. The results showed that Samsung was the most popular brand among Android Authority team, with Google in a relatively close second position.

We are almost ready for a 2021 edition of this survey, but that made us question the phone brands that Android Authority readers are currently using. We were particularly interested in the brands of Android phones that our readers are using. We know that many of our readers have iPhones (you are very welcome here too!), But instead of pitting Android against iOS, we want to know which Android OEMs have won a place in their pockets.

So, we posted a poll. See how you voted!

Which brand of Android phone are you using?

Results

We published the poll on February 2, 2021, and 18,915 votes were counted at the time of writing. However, there is clearly a manufacturer that stands out above all else: Samsung.

Approximately two-thirds of all Android Authority Android phone readers are launching a South Korean branded device. Between Samsung’s healthy budget portfolio, well-rounded flagships and its promise to offer three versions of Android updates, there are many reasons to embark.

The second most popular choice was Google, as 18% of respondents said they are carrying a Pixel smartphone. Google gave us some good Pixels this year, with Pixel 4a being a budget champion for many. The Pixel 4a 5G also brought many of the Pixel 5 extras at a significantly cheaper price.

OnePlus completed the podium position, with nearly 16% of voters saying it has a branded device affiliated with BBK. The company expanded its portfolio in 2020, offering cheaper phones like the OnePlus Nord, N10 and N100. It also served the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T series, although some comments point to older flagships still in use.

Motorola (6.78%), Xiaomi (6.6%) and LG (5.5%) were the only other manufacturers to win more than 5% of the votes each. It is interesting to note that Motorola and LG are big in North America, but are declining in other markets, suggesting that many respondents were from North America.

It is also important to note that Oppo, Vivo and Realme are in fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively, in global market share according to Counterpoint. But none of these brands received more than 2% of their votes, again possibly suggesting many respondents in the United States and Canada.

Of course, this survey isn’t exactly indicative of the Android smartphone market in general, but it’s still fun to see what readers are using. And comments also shed more light on specific models.

comments

  • Hassan Saam El-khatib: Google. Only brand I trust. Quick updates, long support, clean software and good camera. Pixel smartphones are so simple and perfect.
  • The doctor: Samsung anyway. S21 Ultra. Support for S Pen, better cameras on an Android phone, quick updates … I like Google phones, but if I wanted boring, I would go to Apple.
  • Alex: Currently, I have a galaxy S10 +, but every year Samsung phones become more like Apple (at least when it comes to hardware) and now without a headphone jack, external SD card slot, MST , edge screen and charger option, my next phone will probably be from a different brand.
  • Zoid: I’m keeping my OP6 until it dies. Rooted, good processor, headset, good battery, good screen, the right size for my hands, clean operating system (before they decided to screw it up). The only thing missing is an SD card slot. I’ll never have a Samsung – I hate the bloat and the user interface.
  • Eric Welling: Still enjoying and enjoying my Oppo Find X2 Pro. Coming from the Huawei P30 Pro, I can really say that Oppo fills the hole that Huawei left behind. Among these phones, I had the Samsung S20 Plus 5G for about 2 months, but it is a mystery to me why they are the leaders in the smartphone industry. Low battery life, lagging software and screen, terrible camera performance and Samsung’s user interface is terrible.
  • actionjksn: I only used the LG V series and I’m happy with them, I wish they weren’t leaving the market. I have the V60 now and it’s fast and it looks great. I don’t really care about updates. I like my DAC audio connector and SD card slot. And the price, wife and I have two V60s for BOGO at $ 800 for both.
  • AnySmarterIdRunLinux: S8 +. I have been wanting a new phone for over 2 years, but nothing interesting has been released. I think I’m finally at the point where I’m not going to be bothered with updates I don’t want or need, so I can just use this until he dies.
  • Kevin Hoang: This is the North American smartphone market, if you ask that in Asia, it is more likely that Xiaomi will just dominate the chart and go for oppo or Samsung and live
  • Mawuena Dogbe: Still rocking the Essential Phone here!
  • Chuck: I’m using Razer Phone 2, but I wish I wasn’t.
  • Tony says: Using a Oneplus 6T as a secondary device. I didn’t want to, but my IPhone 11 Pro is my main device thanks to its smaller size.
  • ProLoveLife: LG G7 One, is a decent phone, but One UI is a little limited. PS I bought it as a gift, I wanted the normal LG G7.

That’s it for our poll results article! Which phone are you using now? And are you happy with that? Let us know in the comments below.
