We are not saying that it is because we had nothing better to do, but apparently in 2020 we all collectively had 75% more video games than in 2019. Huh! Weird!
With that big old chunk of tweets, comes an interesting insight into what we’re really saying with these missives: it looks like Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the main topic, ahead of the mobile games Destination / Grand Order and Disney: Twisted-Wonderland, both extremely popular in Japan.
Last December’s Game Awards was the most tweeted game event, in which New Horizons won the Best Family Game award, and we saw Sephiroth being announced as the newest Smash Bros. character.
Whether we’re tweeting about them, sharing screenshots, or just waiting patiently for news, the most followed game topics include Fifteen days, Minecraftand Animal Crossing again. The topics “PlayStation” and “Xbox” also entered the top ten, but “Nintendo” and “Switch” did not – possibly because we cannot bear the pain of having new Direct rumors debunked. Sigh.
Meanwhile, it looks like Among us brought enormous recognition to its most well-known musicians, such as musicians and renowned carriers of deep voices @Corpse_Husband is among the top ten “Most tweeted about gaming personalities”, following their streams with US representatives, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.
We know we are guilty of using Twitter to find cute Animal Crossing designs for our islands, but how did you use social media to talk about games? Let us know in the comments.
