Samsung has been using its Tizen platform on smartwatches since the Gear 2 line of 2014, but could return to its Android ‘roots’ in the near future. Both SamMobile and well-known leaker Ice Universe claim that Samsung is making a smartwatch using Android (possibly Wear OS) instead of its usual platform. It would be the first time that Samsung would wear Android on the wrist since the first products, such as Galaxy Gear and Gear Live.
It is unclear what this cap will look like or whether it would represent a total change for Android. GalaxyClub It recently identified two model numbers that suggest that Samsung’s next watches will come in two sizes, regardless of the software they use.
There is no guarantee that Samsung will make the leap. It can be a logical move, however. Although Tizen-based smartwatches, such as the Galaxy Watch 3, have key apps like Spotify and are generally well-regarded, there is no doubt that they lack the links of the Wear OS Android ecosystem. Samsung may have decided that the broader compatibility was worth any exchange. It would certainly help Google, which has not had much success in wearables compared to Apple or Samsung.
With that said, it could be a controversial change. Samsung has its smartwatch fans in part through an exclusive control scheme and strong battery life – we characterize the latest watch as the best non-Apple design. Would he lose that enthusiasm if he went with Wear OS or another version of Android? After all, Wear OS devices did not bring much enthusiasm. We don’t rule out a customized version of Android that preserves Samsung’s advantages, but that is far from guaranteed.
