The Carolina Panthers have done a lot of semi-minor transactions in the past few days. And, you wouldn’t know, that is because they say that they are a great suitor for Deshaun Watson.
On Friday, the Panthers cut three players – Tre Boston, Michael Palardy and Stephen Weatherly – to increase their limit to $ 28.5 million. Then, on Saturday, they supposedly restructured the Matt Paradis contract, which created more than $ 4 million in additional capitalization space.
And according to ESPN’s David Newton, the Panthers made the moves in an effort to free up space and dead money.
He then went on to report the following: “The Panthers, according to one source, are planning a strong race against Houston’s quarterback Deshaun Watson if the Texans grant the former Clemson star his desire to be traded.”
Now, the Texans have not yet fully committed to negotiating with Watson, so this cap compensation may end up being somewhat unnecessary. However, if Houston ever decides it is willing to negotiate with the franchise’s quarterback, the Panthers will likely want to be prepared to act immediately.
That said, Watson is expected to take a while, while Texans are trying to push the price up.
