Theories of WandaVision fans do not make or break the series

After eight consecutive weeks of new episodes, WandaVision broadcast its ending and ended Marvel Studios’ first serious attempt at television programming. Throughout the period leading up to the show, those involved with the production considered the series the most detailed Marvel project to date. It turns out that this is not only true for the program itself, but also for the speech that followed Friday’s climactic episode.

You don’t have to go far to find someone talking about the Disney + series. Once you are able to locate someone, they are likely to use two words in the same sentence – WandaVision and theories. There is a significant part of the fandom upset because virtually none of the most prevalent theories have worked. There was no major revelation from Mephisto, nor was Nightmare the greatest evil in the series. Evan Peters wasn’t even playing the version of Quicksilver that first appeared on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise.

This is where things start to get controversial.

It is reasonable to say that it is foolish for people to be upset because their own theories have not proven to be accurate. In fact, many people have already made that statement through Twitter topics or blog articles. Marvel’s “No More Mutants” panel House of M The comic arc has been reformatted to read “No More Theories” and is being distributed like hotcakes.

But WandaVision it is not a perfect television and has a fair share of legitimate criticism. To some extent, isn’t it film criticism itself that you judge something based on your own standards and expectations? Since art is subjective, we have to define our own internal expectations and desires for what we hope a film or series will turn out to be.

This does not mean that we tolerate those who are becoming furious with WandaVision because the red-faced demon did not appear. But who are we to tell people to stop inventing their own theories about these properties?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the largest entertainment franchise in the world, and has largely arrived where it is today because of the cooler discussion among fans and the common theorization of what might come next. Why should we stop this now?

WandaVision is now being broadcast entirely on Disney +.
