The Witcher 4 may be released in 2025

The Witcher 4 the release date may not be as far away as you think. CD Projekt Red has built a reputation with some for taking too long to develop games and revealing them too soon, but none of these beliefs are based too much. Cyberpunk 2077 it was announced eight years before it was released. If this is your only point of reference, it’s easy to think that CD Projekt Red announces its games well before launch. Although, Cyberpunk 2077 is a unique event for the Polish developer. CD Projekt Red announced both The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 two years before they are released, which is more representative of their standard AAA release.

Cyberpunk 2077 it also gives players the impression that CD Projekt Red takes a long time to develop a game, but again, it is misleading. While Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012, did not go into pre-production until mid-2016, with proper development with an appropriately sized team starting even later. However, The Witcher 3 was done in about three and a half years, while The Witcher 2 it was done in a similar period of time.

What does this have to do with The Witcher 4? Well, this week the CD Projekt Red announced that it will begin the development of new Cyberpunk and Witcher games starting in 2022. If that’s the case, that would probably mean The Witcher 4 – or whatever the project is called – it will be released in 2025 or 2026 at the mentioned times. Working backwards, this suggests that the game will be revealed sometime in 2023 or 2024 if it has a release development schedule similar to the previous entries.

What we do know is that there will not be a big gap between revealing and releasing, as Cyberpunk 2077, because this week CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that it wants to shorten its approach in this direction, or in other words, reveal its games when they are close to launch.

For now, consider all these speculations with a grain of salt, because that is all, speculation. However, it is not completely unfounded speculation, and after Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red is probably looking forward to moving on and getting back to his bread and butter.
