The ‘Wipeout’ competitor died of a heart attack after completing the obstacle course

A “Wipeout” competitor who died in November after completing the TV show’s obstacle course suffered a heart attack, according to a coroner’s report released on Friday.

On November 20, the show’s producer, Endemol Shien North America, confirmed that one of its competitors had died. “We offer our sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them right now,” he said.

A TBS spokesman also told Fox News: “We are devastated to hear of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family.”

According to TMZ, the contestant was Michael Paredes, 38. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office now lists the cause of Paredes’ death as an acute myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Around the time of his death, production sources told Fox News that the competitor needed medical attention after completing the course and that the medical staff attended him on the spot.

The source said that there are professionals and paramedics present on all recordings. The competitor was later taken to the hospital where he died.

The source added that all “Wipeout” competitors “undergo medical examinations” before being released to participate in the obstacle course.

In addition, there is a “security team present” at each show. The team consists of two paramedics, two doctors, a paramedic coordinator and a security producer.

“Wipeout” is receiving the restart treatment on TBS. The series originally aired on ABC from 2008 to 2014.
