The Windows 10 KB5001649 update is being released again to correct printing

Windows 10

The printer repair roller coaster continues as Microsoft is once again rolling out the KB5001649 out-of-band update to users through Windows Update.

After installing Patch 2021 updates for March 2021, users began to report that Windows 10 would crash when printing or print jobs lost graphics, blank pages or other problems.

To resolve these issues, Microsoft released two out-of-band emergency updates for Windows 10 – KB5001567 on March 15 to correct the flaws and KB5001649 on March 18 to correct printing problems.

For those who did not install the KB5001567 update, the KB5001649 update replaced it when it was released.

Unfortunately, several users reported that they were unable to install the update and were receiving “We were unable to install this update, but you can try again (0x80070541)” errors on Windows Update.

Yesterday, we reported that Microsoft had stopped the release of the KB5001649 update. Instead, all of our devices and virtual machines were suddenly offering the previous update KB5001567 again.

When we contacted Microsoft to ask why the launch was interrupted, they just told us that they are working to fix the printer problems.

“We are working to fix the problems that some customers may experience when printing from some applications.” – Microsoft spokesman.

This afternoon, BleepingComputer and Windows Latest confirmed that Microsoft has once again resumed the optional Windows 10 OOB KB5001649 update distribution.

It is not known what changes, if any, Microsoft made to the update, but tests carried out by BleepingComputer showed that Windows Update installed the update without displaying any error 0x80070541.

If you were affected by the printing problems, you can now install the update, hopefully more successfully than the last time.
