A shocking video shows the moment when a crazed man wielding a mast destroys a Korean-owned convenience store in North Carolina while screaming racial slanders, according to reports.
Mark Sung, whose family owns the store in Charlotte, said the brute who destroyed his business was reportedly hired by a customer who was banned from the store.
“As he was [trashing the shop], he was like saying racial slander, cursing us, threatening us, ”said Sung. “And the guy we banned ended up going into the store, cheering for him and shouting, ‘This is what you get, it’s what you get! Go back to your country! ‘”
The footage from Plaza Sundries last week shows the culprit tearing down a shop window before he started swinging the metal mast on the glass in the store’s refrigerated display cases.
Suspect Xavier Rashee Woody-Silas, 24, now faces a number of charges in the incident, including dangerous weapon theft, threat communication and disorderly conduct, the Charlotte Area Transit System said on twitter.
The incident happened Tuesday at the Charlotte Transportation Center, where the store is located in downtown Charlotte, officials said.
“The suspect has also been banned from all CATS facilities and services,” said the agency’s statement. “CAT found that the G4S increased the presence of officers in the CTC.”
According to WBTV-News, the attack caused more than $ 9,000 in damage.
Sung said the family had been shot before because of their Asian American heritage – and said his mother took the latest attack particularly harshly.
“She’s like, ‘What’s the point?’ “he said.” ‘Why am I being treated like trash every day?’ We just want to be left alone in peace.
“It is easy for people to attack us because we are in the minority,” added Sung. “I’ve faced racism growing up here in Charlotte my whole life, so it’s nothing new.”
But the family also received a show of support.
According to ABC News, more than $ 30,000 was raised through a GoFundMe page to help the family pay for the damage.
Other supporters showed up in person, including a woman who came into the store with soup for the family, a pizza delivery man who brought five pies and a local doctor who stopped to deliver a check to help offset the costs.
The United States has seen a recent increase in anti-Asian attacks.
