The Valheim mod “Master Chef” adds 25 new delicious recipes • Eurogamer.net

I have a confession to make: although Valheim ostensibly tried to hunt terrible monsters, instead I became obsessed with making huge piles of food. I even created a “snack bar” on my server so that my friends can get food anywhere, and I regularly place supplies to keep them well-stocked.

Food is very important in Valheim – it is vital for maintaining your health while roaming dangerous biomes and is particularly important for boss battles. Snacks are often a big challenge to make, requiring a mix of farming, hunting and gathering to acquire the necessary resources, and you can’t just feed on one type of food: your Viking needs a balanced diet to stay happy. I think that all means that making a pile of sausages is extremely rewarding in Valheim … when you stop thinking about the origin of the guts.

But what if there were more recipes, using a wider variety of ingredients and requiring several stages of preparation? That’s where the Master Chef mod for Valheim comes in. Made by hrve and available in Nexus Mods, the mod adds 25 new recipes to the game and even introduces some previously inedible items like recipes.

I tried the mod on my own and I love the variety of new recipes it features – there is everything from pancakes to vegetable smoothies. For recipes like deer head tacos and pig head tureen, the mod allows you to use animal trophies as ingredients, providing a legal use for these items (which normally only clog my chest). If you are preparing breakfast for the guests, I suggest you try the dragon omelet, since an egg gives 20 servings.

The mod also features some recipes that require a few layers of preparation – before you can make a carrot and jelly butter sandwich, for example, you’ll need to make Duke’s Jelly, another recipe that requires blackberries and honey. To make fried foods like neck-tail skewers, you first need to make carrot oil, so start saving some carrot seeds.

It is important to note that there are some limits to this mod: food items currently only have 2D sprites and no 3D models, so throwing one on the floor will present you with a similar item from the vanilla game. Many of the recipes also require items from the Plains, but hrve said they will consider adding more low-level recipes in future updates.

Still, it’s a great mod for those who want to spice up their games and a practical way to use spare items. If you want to try it for yourself, you will first need to install BepInEx and JotunnLib, as these are necessary prerequisites for the mod to work. The author of the mod hrve also provided a useful diagram of the correct folder structure, so check the description of the mod Master Chef to make sure you set everything up correctly.
