The Washington Wizards will not have the eight players required by the league available for Wednesday’s home game against Utah Jazz, causing it to be postponed, it was announced on Tuesday.
Wizards are dealing with multiple players in COVID-19 contact tracking, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This is the sixth NBA game this season to be delayed due to health and safety protocols.
The Wizards canceled training on Tuesday, before the league’s decision to postpone the game. The team later listed striker Rui Hachimura and central defender Moe Wagner as questionable due to the health and safety protocols in the injury report.
Shipowner Russell Westbrook was already out this week with an injury to his left quadrilateral. And the team had just lost pivot Thomas Bryant (ACL) in the season last weekend.
“It is happening across the league,” said Wizards coach Scott Brooks of canceling training. “And we knew that there is always the possibility that this could happen to us.
“We must always focus on the safety of our players, team and family. This is more important to me than playing. If we have to cancel a game or pause, I defend. Whatever we have to do, I am in favor Our players think the same way.
