The Pokémon GO Unova Collection Challenge went live a few hours – or even a day – sooner than expected. According to Niantic’s January 2021 event schedule, the Unova Celebration event starts tomorrow at 10:00 local time, and we didn’t expect to see anything related to the Collection Challenge before that time.
Unova Collection Challenge
According to Today’s Preview, you have 7 days to capture the following Pokémon in order to complete the Unova Collection Challenge:
The rarity of featured challenge Pokémon seems a little high for the Unova Challenge, but we need to see what the spawn table for the Unova Celebration Event looks like before making the final judgment.
You can see the challenge on the Today View screen:
If you want to get a head start on completing this challenge, here are some tips and tricks:
- Lillipup is in Pokémon Spotlight tomorrow, January 5
- Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig are sometimes found in nature, which is unusual, but I have been using some incense recently. They are also available in 2 km eggs
- Solosis, Blitzle and Roggenrola are currently available in 5 km eggs and in wild encounters
- Ferroseed is currently available in 10 km eggs, I’m not sure if I’ve seen a wild one … ever? Shortly?
What are collection challenges?
Haven’t you heard of the Collection Challenges? Don’t worry, you are fine – they are not yet alive.
Collection challenges are an announced feature that will be available in early January. Collection challenges are timed challenges that challenge you to capture a set of Pokémon provided by Niantic (also known as a collection) during an event. Completing the challenge seems to improve your Elite Collector medal, which is a mystery at the moment.
As we expected, Collection Challenges look like a nice way to promote selected Pokémon during events. We have no idea how the new Elite Collector badge will work, but there will be a time-based component for sure.
Everything we know about the Collection Challenges was dated at the beginning of last year.
