The Tesla Model S internal update reveals the V11 user interface, “Drag Strip mode”, “Smart Shift” and more

A recent discovery of an update to the Tesla Model S provided what could very well be the first glimpse of the potential user interface of the version 11 software, as well as some of its features. The images also showed how Tesla can use the 17 ″ infotainment system of the Cybertruck update model S and its instrument panel.

In a post on subreddit r / TeslaMotors, electric vehicle enthusiast u / FridayTheDog111 noted that the images were taken on one of the two high-mileage Model S update units that were traveling from Phoenix to Fremont. The EV enthusiast did not say where he found the vehicle, although the photos appeared to have been taken on the Kettleman Supercharger.

A look at the photos the electric car enthusiast shared reveals that the V11 software will feature some changes to the user interface compared to the V10. The vehicle’s 3D avatar, which appears to be roughly the same size as the 3 and Y models, was displayed on the instrument panel. This suggests that the driving views on the next vehicle will be displayed on the instrument panel, similar to its predecessor.

The additional screen space provided by the 17 ″ infotainment system looks remarkable, as can be seen in the display support for various widgets. But because they are interesting, what really stood out in the recent photos were some of the features listed in the “Driving” menu of the new Model S. In the images, it was possible to see new features like “Smart Shift”, a dedicated “Drag Strip Mode,” and an option for “Insane” acceleration.

Although the nature of the new features has not yet been announced by Tesla, “Smart Shift” appears to be related to a function that Elon Musk mentioned on Twitter recently. In a tweet, Tesla’s CEO noted that the Model S update would be able to operate without a shifter. A leaked email later provided additional details about the feature, with Musk saying the system use autopilot cameras to determine whether a vehicle should be in Park, Neutral, Reverse or Drive. These features seem to fit the “Smart Change” function.

The “insane” acceleration is a throwback to the days of the Model S P85D, a flagship all-electric sedan variant that could go from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Insane Mode is partly responsible for the tendency for Tesla owners to share passenger reaction videos experiencing Model S acceleration for the first time. “Drag Strip Mode”, considering its nickname, seems to refer to a function that would allow drivers to launch their Model S with the best possible performance.

That said, the fact that no reference to “chess” was in the recently photographed Model S update images suggests that the car is a long-range, dual-engine AWD variant. However, it should also be noted that the recent images exhibited only a few screens and features that were available in the Model S update V11 software. Other features, especially those that would be exclusive to the Model S Plaid, would probably be even more interesting.
