The Suicide Squad is over; James Gunn praises Warners for being “creatively awesome”

James Gunn confirmed that the Suicide Squad is now “totally finished” and praised Warner Bros. for not interfering in the film one bit. Twitter, Gunn replied to a fan who asked if the studio was heavily involved with the Suicide Squad. In response, the director explained how he was given total creative freedom in the project, making “every choice” for himself, since Warners gave “very few grades” and it was his choice to accept them or not. He also confirmed that the film has already been completed.

#TheSuicideSquad it’s totally finished and cut and I made all the choices and they never interfered in the least. They gave very few grades – they were generally good and secondary and I took them if I wanted to and I didn’t do them if I didn’t want to. Warners was creatively incredible.

The Suicide Squad, for DCEU, is one of several important Warner Bros. films. which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously this year – and with “carte blanche” to kill any Suicide Squad member he wanted (even Harley Quinn), Gunn loaded the film with cannon fodder obscurities like Blackguard, Javelin , Polka-Dot Man, Savant and more.

In DC comics, the Suicide Squad has earned a reputation for having an increasing number of bodies – a trend that has continued through the various other incarnations and adaptations of the anti-hero team.

With all the team members being expendable once again, no one can be sure who will survive Gunn’s smooth restart, although there are many contenders. The film stars Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, John Cena as Peacemaker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher II, Steve Agee as King Shark and John Economos, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Flula Borg as Javelin, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Juan Diego Botto as Luna and Michael Rooker as Savant.

The Suicide Squad will open in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021. There is no trailer for the film yet, but Warners has included some images on a rainy reel of upcoming releases. Gunn is also writing and directing a Suicide Squad TV series, starring John Cena’s Peacemaker character. No launch window has been given for this yet, although it is due to debut after The Suicide Squad.
