The stories of Warzone, Black Ops, Zombies and Modern Warfare are all connected • Eurogamer.net

For the first time, the four main Call of Duty stories are all connected.

This means that the worlds of Warzone, Modern Warfare, Black Ops and Zombies seem canonical within a single universe.

THERE MAY BE BLACK OPS COLD WAR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Eurogamer Next-Gen news cast – Will PlayStation Studios publish more games on Xbox?

This week, developer Treyarch released a new map for the extremely popular Zombies mode of Black Ops Cold War called Firebase Z.

Now that players have had a chance to browse the map, they have discovered a series of Easter eggs, as well as a final scene that connects to Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare series.

The final scene revolves around a character named Lev Kravchenko, who is revealed as the leader of the Omega group. Watch the final cutscene in the video below from YouTuber MrRoflWaffles:

Kravchenko is a longtime antagonist of the Black Ops series that appears in the Cold War Black Ops, set in the 1980s, as a secondary character in the ninth campaign mission, Desperate Measures. Here, inside the KGB headquarters in Moscow, the player meets with former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev, Kravchenko and his friend Imran Zakhaev, father of Victor Zakhaev, also known as the mysterious Mr. Z of Modern Warfare’s game. 2019 is the main antagonist of Warzone.

Check out Imran Zakhaev in Black Ops Cold War in the video below, from YouTube’s Generic Gaming channel:

Players had previously connected Black Ops to Modern Warfare after meeting Imran Zakhaev in the Cold War campaign, confirming that both series and, of course, Warzone, which continues the Modern Warfare story, take place within the same universe and timeline. Now the world of Zombies comes on the scene, with Kravchenko’s appearance in the final scene of the new map and his association with Zakhaev linking the worlds.

The integration of Black Ops with the giant Battle Royale Warzone means that the streams were crossed some time ago. Watching Black Ops sergeant Woods join forces with Captain Price of Modern Warfare was strange at first, but now it’s common.

But the suggestion here is that behind the bold realism of the Modern Warfare series and the Black Ops paranoia is the current story of Zombies, augmenting the Call of Duty canon.

Meanwhile, this final scene suggests that the next zombie map is set in the Ural mountains. Black Ops Cold War has a squad map called Ruka that takes place in the Ural Mountains and has a campaign level set at Mount Yamantau, a Russian nuclear facility located in the Ural Mountains. The plot gets complicated …
