The Pittsburgh Steelers do not necessarily have a great need for a wide receiver, but if they are unable to retain JuJu Smith-Schuster, the need for another wide receiver will be increased.
For the Steelers global fanbase, this should be something you are comfortable with. After all, there is a reason why the Steelers are considered a wide receiver factory under the command of general manager Kevin Colbert.
Kicking off the NFL’s 2021 Draft, it’s safe to say that the Steelers will certainly be considering expanding their wide receiver room. Even with Diontae Johnson, James Washington and Chase Claypool coming back, the Steelers always think about a year ahead. A year from now, Washington will be a free agent and Johnson with just another year on his rookie contract.
Preparation for the future is necessary and the Steelers are reportedly taking a look at Auburn’s wide receiver Anthony Schwartz before the draft.
There are many reasons to like a player like Schwartz. The former athletics star has the speed to take the top off any defensive scheme, but he also has the versatility to play both on the slot machine and abroad.
This is something that not every potential customer can say they have in their repertoire. To learn more about Schwartz, check his NFL Draft profile through the Draft Network:
Anthony Schwartz has exceptional proactive athletics, as evidenced by his speed, body control and balance. He is a willing stem blocker, but it is better to fend off the defender. In the passing game, he is a threat due to his explosive speed in threatening a defense before and after the ball arrives. He is a home run threat and defenders must take into account his dynamic ability in the slot. He shows some physical resistance because he is a “track guy” and would be a confrontational problem in the slot.
Ideal Role: Slot receiver.
Adjustment scheme: Vertical pass offense.
A player like Schwarz could certainly be a player in the Steelers’ attack. Having a player who can be a major threat in the slot is rare and a valuable weapon for any scheme. Add a Schwartz-speed player to Claypool, Johnson and Washington and you will have an even more dynamic group of receivers in 2021.
