The spectacular San Antonio walkway opens at Phil Hardberger Park

Nature seekers, this park in San Antonio has an impressive novelty that you will want to experience.

The long-awaited part of the Robert LB Tobin Land Bridge walkway at Phil Hardberger Park officially opens to the public on Monday, April 5. It also connects pedestrians to the land bridge, which opened in December 2020.

The walkway opens at noon, just after Mayor Ron Nirenberg and ex-San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger, as well as other community leaders, hold a grand opening party. It is the first runway of its kind built in San Antonio, according to a city press release.

Visitors should use the NW military entrance to Phil Hardberger Park, 8400 NW Military Hwy. Upon entering, go down to the Urban Ecology Center (you can’t miss it). After parking, walk about half a mile from the center to the walkway. (It should take 10-15 minutes to get there.)

The walkway will be open to the public during park hours, from sunrise to sunset every day. Bicycles are not allowed on the catwalk. It is also accessible by ADA and has a seating area for those who want to relax under the trees.

“Skywalk is one of the most unique features of the Robert LB Tobin Land bridge,” said Hardberger in a statement. “I like to describe it as a zip line moved at your feet. Visitors will have a panoramic view of the trees and the soil below, offering a new perspective on the park and its animal inhabitants.”

Phil Hardberger Park is a 330-acre nature park in the middle of a busy urban center. In addition to providing a space for recreation, Hardberger Park is a learning landscape with a meeting room, open-air classrooms, dog parks, recreational areas and miles of trail.
