The South Carolina Senate may soon decide on two important bills

Two bills submitted to the South Carolina Senate are about to pass. For a start, the legalization of medical marijuana appears to be gaining more support, especially from top senators. This has been attributed mainly to the state’s current opioid crisis and the coronavirus pandemic. The debate on passing the law will resume with the start of a new session in Columbia. The bill that restricts abortion is also moving forward. This would prevent women from seeking abortion six to seven weeks after conception, with the exception of life-threatening situations. It includes loss of license, fines and imprisonment for doctors who ignore the law. Although the bill will be sent to the Senate soon, some lawmakers question its constitutionality and do not believe it will be approved.
