The signal recovers from an entire day’s service interruption

It’s not certain just how many Signal users have added in the past few days, but Apptopia told the New York Times there were 1.3 million new registrations on January 11 alone. Telegram also benefited from concerns about WhatsApp, having added 25 million new users in just three days.

WhatsApp argued that the exodus was the result of confusion and stressed that it was unable to read the messages. However, the damage was already done – many were convinced that WhatsApp would share chats with his father, Facebook.

Signal interruption and prolonged recovery suggest that demand is still strong. It is certainly a good problem for a relatively small service – the company had 20 million active users in December, while WhatsApp had more than 2 billion users last February. The question is whether or not Signal can take advantage of that momentum after the turmoil is over.
