The San Francisco 49ers lose Tony Oden, Mike Ruttenberg to the New York Jets

The migration of coaches from the San Francisco 49ers to the New York Jets team did not end with Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur going east. Two other coaches who were with the 49ers last season, Tony Oden and Mike Ruttenberg, will join Saleh’s defense team with the Jets, according to reports.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported Oden would take over as senior assistant and cornerback coach in New York. Oden joined the 49ers team last season as a coach for defenders and cornerbacks, so his role will be similar at the new club.

Ruttenberg was the coordinator of the San Francisco pass game last season in his only year on the team. He will take on a new role with the Jets and training your linebackers according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

In late January, 49ers added former Lions defensive coordinator Cory Undlin to their team. He will absorb the two roles left by Oden and Ruttenberg. ESPN’s Field Yates reported that Undlin would be the coordinator of the passing game and would train the defenders.
