Samsung expanded its SSD range with the launch of the new SSD 870 EVO, the successor to the two-year old 860 EVO. The latest consumer SSD offering aims to offer fast speeds at an affordable price range. The new SSD offers sequential read speeds of up to 560 MBps and write speeds of 530 MBps, which are the maximum speeds possible with a SATA interface. The company claims that the new range offers improvements of around 38% better random read speeds and a 30% improvement in sustained performance compared to the 860 EVO.

The company is offering a limited 5-year warranty and the new line will be available in capacities ranging from 250 GB to 4 TB in size. The new 2.5-inch SATA SSDs will feature 3-bit V-NAND MLC (TLC) and a rating of up to terabytes recorded (TBW) of 2,400 TB for the superior variant of 4 TB. The 870 EVO should be a great upgrade for consumers using an old PC or laptop, offering a good performance boost.
As for the price, the 870 EVO will be available from $ 39.99 ($$ 3,599) for the 250 GB variant, $ 69.99 ($$ 5,999) for 500 GB, $ 129.99 ($ 10,999) ) for 1 TB, $ 249.99 ($ 21,999) for 2 TB and $ 479.99 ($$ 43,999) for 4 TB. The new SSD line will be available in India from today on Samsung’s own website, as well as on other online and offline retail channels. Samsung is also launching the drive in several other countries, including the United States.
