Before the pandemic, royal fans could expect to see Queen Elizabeth and other members of her family make a public appearance on Easter Sunday. Much like Christmas, royalty used to celebrate Easter together, with many of the Queen’s relatives traveling to Windsor to attend church in St. George’s Chapel as a group. And the photos of royalty walking to the religious service would then be published in the press.

But this year, as last year, royalty did not make a public appearance to mark Easter Sunday because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, Buckingham Palace released two new photos of Prince Charles and his mother walking in the gardens of Casa Frogmore.

The photos were taken on March 23 by Getty photographer Chris Jackson. “It is very special to take this photograph of the Queen and Prince of Wales on the historic grounds of Casa Frogmore, which was launched this evening. It is especially moving, as I hope that EVERYONE will see a little more of [our] families in the coming days and weeks, “Jackson wrote on Twitter, referring to the future loosening of the blockade in the UK.

In addition to the photos, Clarence House celebrated the holiday by sharing a video of Prince Charles reading “The Greatness of God” by Gerard Manley Hopkins.
