The Rare Mickey Mantle baseball card sells for more than $ 5 million, setting a record

A Mickey Mantle baseball card was sold at a huge price.

Rob Gough, a businessman and actor, bought the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle for $ 5.2 million. The card was classified by PSA as Mint 9 and is one of only six 1952 Mickey Mantle PSA 9 cards in the world.

“I dreamed of having a 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps since I was a kid collecting letters,” said Gough in a press release on Thursday. “It is the Mona Lisa of sports cards and I am looking for this top-notch example talking to industry experts, dealers, auction houses, friends and I am happy to now be the proud owner of this iconic card.

The private business was brokered through the PWCC Marketplace – a website for those who want to purchase valuable business sports cards.

“Based on our research, this is the most beautiful-looking Topps Mantle PSA 9 1952 there is,” said Jesse Craig, director of business development at PWCC, in the press release.

Gough bought the streetwear brand DOPE in 2017 and appeared in the films “Billionaire Boys Club”, “The Forgiven” and “Mom and Dad”.

According to Indy Star, Gough has already purchased the 1952 PSA 5 and PSA 6 Mickey Mantle cards.

The purchase breaks a record for sports cards. A 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Superfactor BSF 9 Mike Trout was sold in August for $ 3.93 million.
