Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks, is back with our first look at a rendering of Google’s next midsize phone, the Pixel 5a. Hemmerstoffer nailed the design of the Pixel 4a in January 2020, so it’s smart to take Pixel 5a’s information seriously.
There’s really not much to see in the renderings, as the Pixel 5a looks identical to previous Pixel devices, like the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, and it’s not much different from the Pixel 4a. In that case, Google isn’t fixing what’s not broken. The design looks perfectly modern with fine bezels and a punctured camera, and there is really no need to demand changes just by changing.
Like some other midsize phones, the Pixel 5a offers some design decisions that you might prefer instead of a flagship smartphone. There is a flat screen with no curved sides, a headset and a rear capacitive fingerprint reader. Hemmerstoffer says the phone has a plastic back, stereo speakers and a 6.2-inch screen, which is an increase in size from the 5.8-inch Pixel 4a.
The back has an extra unknown camera, but if Google follows the example of the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, the camera will have a wide-angle lens. After using the same camera sensor on Pixel 2, 3, 4 and 5, will the 5th be the first time in four years that Google will update its camera hardware? This can be asking a lot for a medium sized phone.
We are still missing other important details, such as specifications and a price. The Pixel 3a cost $ 400 and the Pixel 4a cost $ 350, making both difficult to argue when you were getting great performance for so little.
No one knows when the Pixel 5a will be released. The Pixel 4a first leaked eight months before it launched in August, but much of that time was probably due to delays in the COVID-19. The Pixel 3a was launched in the middle of the year at Google I / O 2019, but there’s a good chance that there won’t even be a Google I / O this year.
