New photos show the Central Park coyote relaxing in a wooded area of Manhattan’s green space.
Images taken on Friday by Benjamin Shyman spotted the furry creature resting between naps near the lake, near East 74º Street.
The coyote was seen earlier in Central Park last week running through the snow – and again the week before.
The city’s Parks Department says a coyote “occasionally walks through Central Park.”
“New Yorkers should not be concerned: we believe there is only one coyote; and I have no reason to believe that the population has increased at this time, ”said the agency.
In 2021, the department has only so far received a report of a coyote sighting in Manhattan, but in 2020 it recorded 34 coyote sightings in the neighborhood.
Since 2016, the Parks Department has obtained 126 reports of coyote sightings across the city through the WildlifeNYC website, the agency said.
