The Outer Worlds Murder Mystery DLC was released today

Obsidian’s space RPG, The Outer Worlds, called for its second and last expansion in history called Murder On Eridanos. With that title, I’m sure you know how it goes. There is a body. You are a protagonist. One way or another, you’re about to find out who turned a space celebrity into a space corpse. Murder On Eridanos was launched today for all of its astronauts looking to investigate more corporate science fiction crimes.

“Everyone is suspicious of this peculiar police officer after Rizzo’s spokesman, the famous Halcyon Helen, ends up dead before the launch of the new Spectrum Brown Vodka,” said Obsidian. “Together with your companions, travel through the floating islands of Eridanos and gather clues using the Discrepancy Amplifier, a new gadget that highlights tips that would not otherwise be seen.”

You can see the new accessory up there in the trailer, “a semi-sentient device that shows the anomalies and inconsistencies of a crime scene.” Semi-sentient certainly sounds to me like prone to having an opinion.

In addition to the murder prank, Murder On Eridanos raises the level of the game by three. There are also some new armor and three new weapons to attach. One, interestingly enough, is called The Needler. This sounds suspiciously familiar. Are we sure that Helen was murdered because of alcohol?

Apparently, some expansion pass owners were a little confused about how to access the DLC through various showcases, which may be somewhat thematically appropriate, but the editors explained this in a post. You can identify some other details and bug fixes in the Obsidian patch notes.

You can find Murder on Eridanos on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store for £ 12 / $ 15.
