The Orange and Black Insider Bengals podcast: Frank Mockery

The playoff Wild Card round has just ended and showed how strong the AFC is – especially in the Northern division. Two of the Bengals’ rivals have moved on to the Divisional Round, while Cincinnati continues to recover and rebuild itself for the 2021 season.

Part of that process is hiring some assistant coaches from Zac Taylor. The Bengals engaged in this endeavor last week, including the return of a beloved former assistant at Frank Pollack.

John and Anthony discuss these changes and Joe Burrow’s recent meeting with the media. The duo also discusses the merits of specific strategies in the next draft and in choosing No. 5, in addition to conducting their first draft of the offseason.

This week:

  • What kind of impact will Frank Pollack have as a coach on the offensive line and, perhaps more importantly, as coordinator of the team’s racing game?
  • Troy Walters was a natural fit for promotion to wide receivers coach – for several reasons.
  • Andre Carter looks like a promising candidate for the Bengals defensive line coach. He was recently interviewed for the show.
  • Joe Burrow returned to Cincinnati for the first time since his knee surgery was completed and met with the media. John and Anthony go over many of the catchphrases.
  • In our first segment “State your case”, John presented the reasons why Brandon Scherff was the best free agency for the Bengals this off-season, in case they chased one or the other.
  • The first OBI simulation sketch of 2021 was conducted in the episode. We were left with just three choices and you might be surprised who was available when Bengals was on the timer in the Pro Football Network Draft Simulator.
