While the world talks a lot about Samsung’s latest line of Samsung smartphones, there’s one smartphone you’re sleeping on: the OnePlus Nord N10 5G.

Most other budget phones save in the name of achieving an affordable price, but there is little to sacrifice with the N10 5G. The $ 300 device includes 5G connectivity, a large, quick-update screen, long battery life and fast recharge.

Main specifications

• 6.49 inch LCD screen with 1,080 by 2,400 pixels resolution; 406 ppi; 90 Hz refresh rate
• Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G chipset
• 6 GB of RAM; 128 GB of storage
• 64MP main camera; 16 MP selfie camera
• 4,300 mAh battery with fast charging technology
• Stereo speakers, headphone jack
• Android 10

I’ve been using the OnePlus Nord N10 5G for a few weeks now and I think you would have a hard time finding a smartphone that had a better price. The device has its share of flaws (which we will see shortly), but they are forgivable, especially since most modern 5G phones cost up to $ 1,000.

See why the N10 5G is the cheapest Android phone to buy:

It has a large screen, but it is easy to hold

Measuring 6 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 0.35 inches thick, the device is not small at all. It is even taller than an iPhone 11 Pro Max and has a 6.49 inch screen. However, the screen has a 20: 9 aspect ratio which makes it much easier to grab it with one hand. Coming from my iPhone 12 mini, the device looks bigger, but it doesn’t feel uncomfortable like other big screen devices that I tested previously.

A large screen makes the phone much easier to work with. I was able to edit Google Docs and respond to emails and definitely enjoyed the extra pixels for watching videos in my downtime. Since the device has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, scrolling is much smoother as well. Some diehard smartphone fans may scoff at the fact that it is equipped with an LCD screen instead of AMOLED, but I guarantee that most users would not be able to tell the difference.

Like most cheap phones, this one has a plastic back. Its shiny dark blue (or black) design looks polished and I found the phone easier to hold and less slippery than glass bottom phones, thanks to the phone’s rounded edges. However, I would like the rear panel to be less susceptible to smudges and fingerprints. The device looks a little cheap, but weighing in at almost 7 ounces, it has some weight, which I appreciate.

Brings back fan favorite features

If you’re still holding your wired headphones like me, you’ll be happy to know that the OnePlus Nord N10 5G has a 3.5mm headphone connector on board. It is located at the bottom of the phone, next to its fast-charging USB-C port. So if you like to listen to music with your phone in your pocket, you can do it. The device also has Bluetooth for wireless audio and also has stereo speakers to play music and videos out loud.

The phone is configured with a MicroSD card slot to expand its generous 128 GB of storage. Even Samsung ended up with expandable storage, so I welcome the reintroduction into the memory card slot. More storage means more space for videos, apps, games and your growing library of content.

There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back of the smartphone. I prefer to scan my fingerprints instead of my face to unlock my phone, especially in the age of wearing masks.

Offers excellent battery life

I was very impressed with the battery life of the OnePlus’ economical 5G smartphone. The smartphone comes with a 4,300 mAh battery, 37% bigger than Google’s Pixel 4a. You will easily get a day and a half of moderate use before you need to recharge it.

While the N10 cannot be recharged wirelessly, I was happy to see that the OnePlus included a 30-watt fast charger in the box, something that buyers don’t get even with phones that cost three times as much. Using the included charger, I was able to increase the battery from 5% of the N10 to 60% in less than half an hour.

Some minor deficiencies

The Nord N10 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 processor, which is not as powerful as the Google Pixel 4a’s Snapdragon 765 processor or the iPhone SE A13 chip. Fortunately, Nord has 6 GB of RAM, which helps to make up for the difference a bit.

I’m the worst at closing Chrome tabs, but with this phone, I never noticed a slow performance. If you plan to use your smartphone to edit video, I think it is better to spend more on the Pixel 4a for its more powerful processor, but I genuinely believe that the 690 chip is more than capable for most users.

Despite the fact that the N10 5G has four rear cameras – a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra wide angle camera, a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP monochrome camera – I was never impressed with its performance . This does not mean that the image quality was poor, just that other smartphone cameras are better. Photographers will be happier with the Pixel 4a, which offers better low-light performance. The 16 MP selfie camera also worked well.

Strangely, one of the things I didn’t like the most about my time with the Nord N10 was the lack of a touch button. I didn’t realize how much I trusted this little-liked feature until it ended. I also wish I had seen some level of water resistance, but few phones so cheap are waterproof.

Wrap up

The Nord N10 5G is a brilliant example of why you no need to spend more than $ 1,000 on a smartphone. For a lot less, you get a capable smartphone with 128 GB of storage space, a reliable battery, a headphone connector, a microSD card slot, a large screen and decent cameras.

Is OnePlus Nord N10 5G the best smartphone? Certainly not, but is the best budget Android phone and well worth the asking price of $ 300. Sometimes the phone hits stores for just $ 250, which is a real steal.
