The next OnePlus 9 Pro looks like it will provide a big step in betting on the camera hardware with an alleged prototype appearing under the Hasselblad brand.
A longstanding complaint about OnePlus devices is undoubtedly the camera’s lackluster performance. This is despite the inclusion of reasonably capable and normally first-rate sensors. A new video courtesy of Dave2D gave us a close look at another prototype device from the OnePlus 9 series with what appears to be the Hasselblad brand in the rear camera configuration.
Obviously, a co-developed lens partnership is never always a guarantee that a camera will match the perceived hype. Hasselblad’s rich history as an industry leader in the production of medium format cameras means that this could be a sign of a huge leap in the quality of the next OnePlus 9 Pro. You can check out this prototype device in the video below:
Throughout the short video, we take a look at a quadruple camera setup with iPhone-style circular protrusions being joined by the Hasselblad logo and two other lenses. At this stage, it is unclear what the configuration consists of, but let’s hope there are some major hurdles to the OnePlus 8 Pro’s 48-megapixel Sony IMX689.
Previous suggested rumors that the OnePlus 9 series would potentially come with lenses co-developed with Leica, but it looks like Hasselblad will raise the pre-launch perception of the next flagship camera quality. The camera’s user interface includes a “Tilt-Shift” mode that suggests a moving lens to create the distortion-free images that are a signature of this type of photography.
The last smartphone company to work with Hasselblad was Motorola, with a complement to the Moto Z3 that increased the capabilities of the common camera system. This did not prove to be a great success, but let’s hope that this combination is more similar to the Huawei-Leica partnership than the Moto-Hasselblad partnership.
Other notables that Dave2D reveals is a curved screen, with a slight difference in the shape of the frame for the alert slider and on / off button. It is not clear why this would be the case, but it is interesting to say the least. Some strange aspects of the prototype include an “About the phone” section with 11 GB of RAM, but without processor information. This is likely to prevent more information from leaking out.
Will this finally give the OnePlus 9 a camera that can compete with the best in the industry? Let us know what you think of this supposed partnership in the comments section below.
