In comparison to the changes that could grace the company’s iMac and MacBook Pro computers, Apple is planning more subtle improvements to its iPhone lineup in 2021. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the company’s engineers see this as a sort of “S” of the year after creating so many improvements on the iPhone 12. However, the new models may include at least one feature: a fingerprint scanner on the display.
Apple has an interesting history with fingerprint scanners. Although it was one of the first companies to popularize technology with the iPhone 5S in 2013, it also started to move away from it long before what other companies did when it launched the iPhone X in 2017. With its emphasis on Face ID, the company jumped completely switching to fingerprint sensors on the display. But the coronavirus pandemic appears to have changed his mind about the technology. According to Gurman, the feature will not replace Face ID, but it will give you an alternative way to authenticate your identity if you are wearing a mask or if you discover that Face ID does not work as well as it should.
