The next day – Engadget

On Friday night, The record and Biping Computer reported that PC maker Acer was hit by a ransomware attack on its back-office network. According to information they saw posted on the dark web, the REvil ransomware gang is demanding $ 50 million to decrypt their computers and delete stolen data instead of leaking it.

Acer has not publicly admitted that an attack is taking place, only that it “reported recent abnormal situations” to the authorities. If you need an example of what to do next, CD Projekt Red can be an example, having publicly recognized a ransomware attack that affected plans to release new patches for Cyberpunk 2077. The game developer may be recovering from this, as he has just posted a video showing the adjustments that will be part of the upcoming 1.2 patch.

Engadget Podcast logo

This week, Cherlynn and Devindra joined senior mobile editor Chris Velazco to try to understand Samsung’s ‘Awesome Unpacked’ event. The company not only unveiled new Galaxy A series phones, but also tried painfully to ease its “understanding” of Generation Z jargon. We also take a look at Google’s new Nest Hub, which is a smart display that uses radar to know when you is sleeping. Is that cool or scary? In addition, PC hardware updates from elsewhere arrive with news from Intel, AMD and Alienware.

Stay tuned at the end of the episode for interviews with Living Dead creator Robert Kirkman in his next Amazon Invincible animation series, as well as Fede Alvarez, director of the next Apple TV series Connections.

You are a grown man, Elon.

In the middle of Tesla’s filing with the SEC, Elon Musk apparently claimed a new title, “Tesla’s Technoking”, for some reason. The company’s CFO, Zach Kirkhorn, has a new position that came out War of Thrones: Master of Currency. There is probably also a reference to the recent Bitcoin machinations of Tesla and Musk himself. Last month, Tesla bought $ 1.5 billion in Bitcoin to help “diversify and maximize” its returns. The news further increased the price of Bitcoin, reaching an all-time high of more than $ 44,000.

The filing notes: “Elon and Zach will also retain their respective positions as Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.”
