The next day – Engadget

In the United States, today is the day of inauguration, and while Joe Biden is preparing to take the oath as our 46th president, it is worth recalling the discussions of four years ago. At that time, the “tech savvy” president left when all eyes turned to Donald Trump swapping his Android machine on Twitter for a secure device.

Barack Obama Twitter

We know how things went after that. Donald Trump is no longer tweeting (at least not in his main accounts), and the country is fighting a pandemic. The outgoing president has just seen his temporary YouTube ban extended and, in one of his last official acts, forgave Anthony Levandowski for stealing secrets from autonomous cars by Google subsidiary Waymo.

On the other hand, the new chief executive is being investigated for having a Peloton. Leaving aside the safety of his exercise equipment, the Biden administration will take over the designated social media controls after he takes office, and Twitter has already provided a breakdown of how this will happen.

Check out the complete disassembly for more information, plus some bonus looks at the insides of competing headphones from Sony and Bose.

LG rollable phone

The Korea Herald reports that CEO Kwon Bong-seok said in a message to employees that “it is time for LG to make a cold judgment” about the ailing mobile division. Citing the fierce competition in the cell phone market, the CEO said he is looking at “selling, withdrawing and [a] reducing the size of the smartphone business. “

In 2016, Engadget asked when LG would finally lose patience with its loss-making mobile division after it fell into a second deep drop. The company managed to recover profitability after a loss-making year in 2013, but after falling again in 2015, it never seemed close to a recovery.

Ten more patients have been approved for trials in Israel.

KPro

Developed by a company called CorNeat, KPro is the first implant that can be integrated directly into the wall of the eye, without donor tissue, to replace scarred or deformed corneas. Immediately after surgery, the 78-year-old patient was able to recognize family members and read the numbers on an eye chart. The CorNeat transplant is a relatively simple procedure compared to existing implants and uses a biomimetic material that supposedly “stimulates cell proliferation, leading to progressive tissue integration”.

ViacomCBS is ready to make a real streaming push.

Paramount +

On the same day, Netflix revealed that it has more than 200 million paying customers, ViacomCBS revealed a brand overhaul for its streaming service. This spring, CBS All Access will become Paramount + in the United States, before launching in the Nordic countries, Australia and Canada later this year.

While All Access was originally focused on CBS and Internet-only originals, the new offering includes programs from a number of ViacomCBS channels, as well as the Paramount film library. In theory, you should have more reason to sign up than to follow the latest Star Trek series.
