The next Cyberpunk 2077 patch will tame the cheap police

The construction of Night City continues as CD Projekt Red plans another patch for Cyberpunk 2077. Patch 1.2 has not yet been released, but CDPR has now detailed some of the problems it will solve. There are some pretty familiar annoyances on the list, from cheap police response times to vehicle handling problems. They have not specified when patch 1.2 will be released, but have already announced plans to release it this month.

When Cyberpunk 2077 was released, I saw several clips of the Night City police magically appearing behind players immediately after committing a crime. I know it’s the future and everything, but it seemed a little comically efficient. CDPR shows what police response times will be after the patch in this short clip.

This is an important step in dealing with police behavior in our game. It should lessen the problem of NPCs appearing on players’ backs and create the impression that it takes time for the police to arrive at the crime scene after the crime has been reported. We also added a “drone” reconnaissance unit to create the feeling that the police are assessing the situation.

You can identify that reconnaissance drone in action in the clip as well.

You will also have fewer vehicle accidents after the upgrade. The CDPR explains that they adjusted the handling of the vehicle, a problem that used to arise for players who use a keyboard, they say. “We added a Steering Sensitivity slider to the Options menu. This allows the steering speed of all vehicles and all input devices to be reduced, without affecting the maximum turning radius.” You will also be able to take off your vehicle more easily if you end up stranded on an obstacle.

The latter is the ability to turn off the double tap on a movement key to dodge, which apparently caused several players to dodge rolling from high places by accident. You can find the rest of the details and more demo videos on the CDPR post.

What CDPR did not specify was when this patch will be released. Due in part to the cyber attack on the studio’s infrastructure in February, they postponed patch 1.2 to the second half of March. This is nothing, so we can probably expect that soon.
