The next Apple Silicon Mac will have a 12-core chip and will be announced in March, says Tipster

In 2020, we were welcomed by the M1 8-core 5nm chip, which just means that Apple should increase the core count for the new year. We heard about a 12-core Apple Silicon Mac several times from various sources over several months, but such a product never materialized, unfortunately. Fortunately, an insider strongly believes that if you want to try a powerful new Mac, you won’t have to wait as long as is expected in March.

The new Apple Silicon Mac may feature a redesigned chassis with a 14.1-inch screen, according to previous reports

LeaksApplePro triggered the possible launch of a new Apple Silicon Mac, but in addition to informing us of the expected chip core count on this machine, there are no other details provided. For example, according to a report by Ming-Chi Kuo, redesigned models of the MacBook Pro with 14.1-inch and 16-inch screens will arrive in the second quarter of 2021, with both being treated with Apple custom silicone.

The new 14.1-inch MacBook Pro can feature the 12-core Apple Silicon, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro features a 16-core piece. Since the 16-inch MacBook Pro would have more room for a more robust cooling solution, it makes sense to incorporate more powerful silicon as part of its internal components. Unfortunately, the informant did not provide details about the name of the new chip. However, a previous report mentions that a new M2 silicon will arrive in 2021, but will be for Apple’s redesigned iMac line.

A different report states that a 5 nm A14T desktop chip is being developed for the new iMac. As there are conflicting reports here, let’s get straight to the point and say that the next Apple Silicon Mac with M2 will be the 14.1-inch model. However, we recommend treating this information as mere speculation at this point. The 12-core chip is likely to be divided into eight performance cores, with four focused on energy efficiency.

Looking at the performance of the M1, we look forward to seeing what this new 12-core Apple Silicon Mac brings to the table. At the same time, we feel that the inclusion of additional performance cores can adversely affect battery life. Then again, we’ll have to see for ourselves which workaround Apple incorporates, so, as always, stay tuned for more updates.
