The New York Giants have been relatively quiet since the NFL’s legal tamper window opened on Monday, but it’s not for want of trying.
Despite being in a financial squeeze, the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman were aggressive in trying to hire some selected free agents. However, with the exception of running back Devontae Booker, who was arguably well paid, and wide receiver John Ross, things have not been going well.
The Giants “were tough” after rusher Leonard Floyd, but he ended up re-signing with the Los Angeles Rams. In the end, that decision boiled down to personal preference and he simply said no to the Giants.
Gettleman & Co. were also reportedly in the mix of tight end Hunter Henry, who is an interesting target and potentially tilts his hand a little bit, before agreeing with the New England Patriots.
I heard from several league sources that Leonard Floyd was the Giants’ big loss. It was difficult, but Floyd just chose Rams’ return.
The giants also mixed up to some extent in TE Hunter Henry, which is interesting. It shows that they were not necessarily waiting for the Leonard Williams deal to be closed.

The Giants were also prevented from entering the top-of-the-line wide receiver market, although this may be more on purpose. The movement in many of these free agents has been slow and the market does not seem to correspond to the demand.
Anyway, it is worrying that the Giants are being passed over by players they want. They expected better recruitment this year under coach Joe Judge and with players like safety Logan Ryan in tow, but it was not as they expected.
