The new V15 Detect vacuum from Dyson uses lasers to make you do a better job of cleaning

Dyson has a new flagship vacuum cleaner, the $ 699 V15 Detect, which adds a laser dust detection system designed to illuminate dust on the floor so you can clean it better.

Based on Dyson’s images that show how the laser works, however, it looks like the V15 Detect will mainly help you to feel a sense of guilt and / or horror only how the kitchen floor is dusty. Unlike most vacuum cleaners with lights on the cleaning head – which help you see where you’re vacuuming – the new lasers are designed to help you see what you are cleaning.

The new model replaces the 2019 V11 at the top of the Dyson line. Like that model, it has an LCD display to transmit more information to users, with the ability to display different vacuum modes and how much battery is left.

The other great addition, in addition to the laser that illuminates the dust, is a new acoustic piezoelectric sensor, which (combined with a new microprocessor) monitors the air intake of the vacuum to determine the size and quantity of the dust being aspirated. This information is relayed to the built-in LCD (so you can get an idea of what you’re aspiring for, I think). Most importantly, it is also relayed to the main engine, which can increase power and suction if the vacuum detects many large particles of dust or debris.

The new vacuum cleaner is part of a renewed line of Dyson cleaners that are also scheduled to debut starting today, including a new larger Dyson Outsize model and the Dyson Omni-glide, which offers a cleaning head almost like a mop that can be moved freely in any direction.

All three products are now available on the Dyson website.
