The new Red Magic phone from Nubia comes with a 165 Hz screen and up to 18 GB of RAM

Nubia has come a long way since it first placed a cooling fan on its Red Magic gaming phones. Today, the Chinese brand is back with the Red Magic 6 series based on the Snapdragon 888, which not only has a faster internal fan, but also two world news in the mobile market: a 165 Hz screen and up to 18 GB of RAM. In addition, the phones offer fast charging up to 120 W (already used by Xiaomi and Vivo), 400 Hz capacitive shoulder triggers and an optional clip-on cooler with double fan and double TEC (thermoelectric cooling).

Red Magic 6 with Android 11 comes in three options, all sharing the same 6.8-inch FHD + AMOLED screen, with 500 Hz single touch sampling or 360 Hz multitouch sampling for better game response. In the same way, these devices have identical cameras: a main camera of 64 MP, an ultra-wide camera of 8 MP and a macro camera of 2 MP in the rear, besides an selfie camera of 8 MP in the other side. You will also find a 3.5 mm headphone jack throughout the series.

The “Basic” Red Magic 6 features an all-glass rear body and comes in “black carbon fiber” or a more extravagant “cyber neon”. It contains a 5.050mAh battery that supports a load of up to 66W, along with an internal fan of 18,000 rpm – above the previous 15,000 rpm – to assist the phone’s steam cooling chamber and the graphene plate.

Things get more interesting with the Red Magic 6 Pro, which is available in “black iron” or “silver ice sheet”, and adds a piece of aluminum plate on the back to increase heat dissipation. The single battery is replaced by two cells that add up to 4,500mAh and, despite the lower total capacity, this allows faster charging of 120W – a mere five minutes bring a dead phone back to 50 per cent. In addition, the fan speed on the Pro rises to 20,000 rpm faster.

And finally, we have the special transparent edition “Dao”, which not only has a shiny fan, but also up to 18GB of RAM.

Red Magic 6 optimized by Tencent Games is now available for order in China, with the base model starting at 3,799 yuan (about $ 590) and the Pro model starting at 4,399 yuan (about $ 680). The premium transparent edition “Dao” is asking for 5,599 yuan (about $ 865; 16 GB of RAM + 256 GB of storage) and 6,599 yuan (about $ 1,120; 18 GB of RAM + 512 GB of storage).

The good news for most of us is that Nubia is also preparing a global launch for the Red Magic 6 series on March 16, which is likely to be preloaded with Google services. We should hear more then.
