We are very, very ready for this one.

Mark sports car fans on your calendar: the long-awaited 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 will greet the world on Tuesday, February 16th. Porsche launched a live streaming website for the new GT3 – sorry, “the youngest member of the 911 GT family” – earlier this week, confirming not only the debut date, but giving us a dark glimpse of the rear of the coupe .

Of course, there are a lot of GT3 details that we already know about. Our man Henry Catchpole went for a ride on a 992 GT3 prototype at the end of last year, with GT-car-master Andreas Preuninger at the wheel. Arguably, the biggest change for the new GT3 will be the use of a double-triangle front suspension configuration. This will be the first time that a cool road 911 uses this architecture, as it was previously relegated to the 991 RSR race car.

There has also been a lot of talk about, uh, interestingly rear wing, which Preuninger assures us that will look better in the production car. But this strange shape offers many functions; the redesigned wing should not only reduce drag, but increase downforce at the rear end of the GT3.

Otherwise, the GT3 formula will be familiar, and that is not a bad thing. The power will come from a naturally aspirated six flat-six and you can combine it with a Porsche PDK manual transmission or double clutch gearbox. The entire car must also weigh around 3,100 pounds.

Are we stoked? You bet. Stay tuned for all details on February 16th.
